About the audio files: When I was growing up in Appleton, Wisconsin, our family home was located a few hundred feet from the C&NW main line between Fond du Lac and Green Bay. We were located near the crest of the highest point on the Valley Subdivision, which required the motive power on the trains in both directions to be pulling hard. It didn’t take long and I developed an ear for diesel sounds and could tell what the make and model of the motive power was by just listening. My interests in railroad sounds grew and I began collecting tape recordings. The digitized audio files available here are from my collection. For model railroaders, the sounds can be used as a reference for sound decoder selection and can also be dubbed into model railroad videos to create a more believable scene. |

Similar to taking part in a shop tour at a railroad facility, please read the terms and conditions of the audio files contained within www.cnwdieselshop.com. Unlike a shop tour however, you are not required to sign a piece of paper, wear hard soled shoes, a hard hat, safety glasses or have hearing protection. Infact, hearing enhancement is recommended though the safe use of good headphones or speakers with good bass.
